A mediados del pasado mes de enero se dieron a conocer los nominados a los Asian film Awards, premios creados en el marco del Hong Kong Film Festival, y promovidos por algunos de los festivales más importantes de Asia como el Tokyo International Film Festival o el Busan International Film Festival, en muy poco tiempo se han convertido en un referente dentro de la producción cinematográfica asiática. Lidera la lista de nominadas la china Legend of the Demon Cat con seis, mientras que con cinco se produce un cuádruple empate entre la japonesa The Third Murder, las también chinas Angels Wear White, Youth y Love Education. Curiosamente algunas de las nominadas a mejor película no están presentes en muchos otros premios técnicos, como le sucede a la india Newton, presente además en mejor guión y mejor actor, o a The Day After, la última producción hasta la fecha del coreano Hong Sang-soo.
