Poco antes de que el mundo del cine se volviese loco con los Oscars de la Academia estadounidense de cine, la Academia japonesa concedía sus premios a lo mejor del pasado año, los Japanese Academy Awards. Finalmente los pronósticos se cumplieron y The Third Murder de Hirokazu Kore-eda, ha arrasado llevándose los premios a mejor película, mejor dirección, mejor guion y mejores interpretaciones de reparto, tanto masculina para Koji Yakusho, como femenina para Suzu Hirose. Por su parte la mejor película de animación ha ido a parar a Night Is Short, Walk on Girl de Masaaki Yuasa, director que está teniendo un gran año.
